“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set to be released this week, and people are already talking about the sequel. Jon Watts has yet to officially be confirmed as the director for the sequel, but Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Sony exec Amy Pascal have both said they want him back for the next film.
During a recent chat with We Got This Covered, director Jon Watts was asked about potential villains for the second movie, and the interviewer suggested Chameleon, who Watts noted might need a little updating.
“Yeah, Chameleon’s cool. I wonder is it that cool of an ability nowadays? Like, we’d have to come up with a way to make him to be more than just that. But Chameleon is great and he’s also one of the earlier day villains. I mainly focused on the bad villains as just a joke because there are so many really silly guys. Like Big Wheel. [laughs] So I’ve kind of done the wrong research so far in who the next villain could be. Swarm… [laughs]”
One Spider-Man character who fans have been hoping to see on the big screen for a long time now is Morbius. Bringing vampires into the MCU would be no easy task, but Watts thinks it could be a good excuse to introduce Blade.
“The tone of the character is pretty dark, but the vampire/Marvel Universe thing is pretty cool. Maybe we could get Blade to show up, too? That’d be neat.”
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
