The Punisher was a big hit with the fans when he made his debut in “Daredevil” season 2 and he will be returning to Netflix with his own spin-off series. EW confirmed the news this morning and also noted that Writer/Producer Steve Lightfoot will be serving as the showrunner for the series.

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot said in a statement released by Marvel. “After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

Netflix also posted the following teaser on Twitter.

Business is really picking up for Marvel’s shows on Netflix. “Daredevil” is now 2 seasons deep and both seasons have been well received by the fans and critics as well. The first season of “Jessica Jones” also received rave reviews and “Luke Cage” will be released later this year. “Iron Fist” is also in development with Finn Jones in the lead role.

Eventually the four characters will be teaming up for “The Defenders” and Charlie Cox recently confirmed that the show will start shooting later this year. It was noted in EW’s report that it’s not yet clear if Marvel has plans to include Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in “The Defenders” series.
