One Important Character Almost Wasn’t In Spider-Man: Homecoming

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” introduced quite a few new characters into the MCU such as the Vulture, the Shocker, Mac Gargan, Liz Allan and others, and it also confirmed that a major character exists somewhere out there in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the movie Spider-Man confronts Aaron Davis who is played by Donald Glover, and he interrogates him in an effort to gain intel on the Vulture and his gang. During their brief conversation Davis reveals that he has a nephew who lives in New York. Spider-Man fans picked up on the reference right away as they know Aaron Davis is the uncle of Miles Morales

Back in 2010, Donald Glover expressed an interest in playing Miles Morales on the big screen, and fans got behind him and kicked off a campaign on social media. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Donald Glover will ever get the chance to suit up as Spider-Man and play Miles Morales, but his small part was a pretty big deal to fans who are hoping to see Miles in a film someday.

Ironically enough, director Jon Watts told Donald Glover that the only way the line would be included in the movie is if Glover signed on to Play Aaron Davis.

“If you don’t do [the part], we aren’t going to [include] it,” Jon Watts told Donald Glover.

Although Donald Glover didn’t get much screen time, his character still had a pretty big impact on Spider-Man’s adventures in the film, and plus the banter between Spidey and Aaron Davis was worth the price of admission alone.

So, if you’re a Miles Morales fan and you’re waiting for his debut on the big screen, you can thank Donald Glover for bringing us all one step closer to that dream becoming a reality.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is in theaters now.
