“The Flash” season 4 has been full of twists and turns so far, but the greatest twist without a doubt happened in the midseason finale. Clifford DeVoe revealed to Barry that he had switched bodies, and he left his old body in Barry’s apartment then called the police to frame him for murder.

As the episode came to a close, Barry was arrested by the CCPD, and he’ll be put on trial when the show returns in just a few weeks.

The CW has released the official synopsis for the episode which reads as follows:

“The Trial of The Flash”

“BARRY FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE — As Barry’s (Grant Gustin) trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins, Iris (Candice Patton) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison. Philip Chipera directed the episode written by Lauren Certo & Kristen Kim (#410). Original airdate 1/16/2018.”

“The Flash” season 4 has brought back the lighter tone in a big way, but Grant Gustin has been teasing that the show would be taking a bit of a darker turn soon, and it looks like this is what he meant.

“The Flash” will return on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.
