“Spider-Man: Homecoming” will be hitting theaters next week, and fans are thrilled because not only will the film be Spidey’s first standalone adventure in the MCU, it will also feature Tony Stark in a mentor role.
Stark will be helping to guide Spider-Man as he eases his way into a life of crime fighting, but it turns out that Tony Stark wasn’t the only MCU character who was considered for the film. Director Jon Watts recently spoke with io9 and he revealed that Nick Fury was discussed for the mentor role in “Homecoming.”
“Interestingly, while Tony was the obvious choice, especially after the events of Civil War, Watts created images of Nick Fury as the mentor in the story in early ‘mood reels’ before getting the job. ‘I don’t know what the situation would be,’ he said. ‘But that would be a person he’d want to get in trouble with.'”
