Pokemon fever is running wild all over the world right now thanks to the massively successful Pokemon Go app. Pokemon fans are outsideĀ and out into the world as they scramble to catch em all.
It looks like Pokemon fever will likely reach a fever pitch in the next few years because Legendary Entertainment has announced that they are developing a live action Pokemon film based on the Detective Pikachu character. At this point details on the plot are slim. However, it was announced that Universal is set to handle worldwide distribution in all markets besides Japan, where “Godzilla” distributors Toho will handle distribution.
A few months ago it was reported that several film studios were bidding on the rights to live action Pokemon film and it looks like Legendary won the bid. This will be the first live action film for the Pokemon franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Legendary moved to close the deal with The Pokemon Co. earlier this month after the Pokemon Go craze exploded. It was also noted in the report that Netflix was hot on the film as well. It should be interesting to see how they bring the Detective Pikachu character to life.
So there you have it folks, if you’re a Pokemon fan it looks like there’s a lot to look forward to in regards to the future of Pokemon, and if you’re not a fan, sorry but it doesn’t look like the hype is going to die down anytime soon.
