John Barrowman has been one of the most vital members of the “Arrowverse” right from the beginning, but it appears that he’ll be saying goodbye soon. Over the weekend John Barrowman was participating in a panel at Planet Comic Con, and according to a fan in attendance, Barrowman said he won’t be returning to the “Arrowverse” in the fall.

Barrowman made his debut as Malcolm Merlyn in “Arrow” season 1, and he was revealed to be the big bad of the season. His character has a long history with Oliver Queen, and it was revealed during season 2 that he was the father of Thea Queen.
Malcolm Merlyn teamed up with Eobard Thawne and Damien Darhk to form the Legion of Doom for the second season of DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” but he will soon be returning to “Arrow.”
It’s going to be sad to see Malcolm Merlyn go, but it sounds like he’ll be going out with a bang. Showrunner Wendy Mericle recently spoke to CBR and she revealed that a big Malcolm Merlyn moment will take place in the season 5 finale.
“He’s going to be a huge factor leading up to the finale. This season is all about legacy, and when Malcolm comes into the story, it’s really rooted as much by necessity from Oliver’s point of view as it is about what Malcolm means to him and what Malcolm means to Thea. It’s a great story, because it’s going to have a lot of action but it’s also going to have this kind of emotional undercurrent that is going to lead to a really big, huge series moment for him. I think it’s a great story to tell, and it’s great stuff for John [Barrowman] to play.”
The “Arrow” season 5 finale will air on Wednesday, May 24th.
