After months of buildup and anticipation, “The Flash” season 3 finale finally aired this week, and Barry Allen faced off against Savitar one last time. In the previous episode “Infantino Street” we saw Iris West get killed by Savitar at the end of the episode, and the finale picked up right where the previous episode left off.

It turns out that one of the most popular fan theories regarding the death of Iris was correct, as HR actually took her place and he was the one who ended up getting killed by Savitar. After Savitar killed “Iris” and left, HR revealed himself to Barry, and Iris in the form of HR revealed herself to Joe on a rooftop.
The switch was explained by a series of flashbacks that showed that HR used the piece of Savitar’s suit that Team Flash had in their possession to track down Savitar’s lair and find Iris after Savitar had abducted her from Earth-2.
HR tried to break her free, but right before they were caught by Killer Frost, he used his face changing technology to make himself look like Iris and to make Iris look like him. As Iris he convinced Killer Frost to let “HR” live.
With Iris still alive, Savitar’s plan was ruined because he couldn’t exist unless Iris was killed, and it became only a matter of time before he faded away due to the paradox of his existence.
He forced Cisco to reconfigure the Speed Bazooka into a device that would allow him to splice himself throughout time so that he would exist in every single moment. He threatened to kill Caitlyn so Cisco agreed.
Savitar later opened up a portal to the Speed Force and Black Flash ran out of it. Killer Frost froze him and Black Flash shattered.
Savitar stood in front of the Speed Force portal and Killer Frost shot him with the Speed Bazooka to try and complete his plan, but Cisco revealed that he sabotaged the device.
Jay Garrick returned from the Speed Force and then a huge battle broke out with Killer Frost fighting Vibe and Gypsy, and Savitar battling Flash, Jay Garrick and Kid Flash.
Vibe beat Killer Frost, and Cisco gave Caitlyn the cure for her metahuman powers and told her she had a choice. Savitar then threatened to kill Cisco, but Killer Frost saved him by attacking Savitar.
It then came down to Barry and Savitar, and Barry phased into Savitar’s suit while pushing him out of it. He beat Savitar down then threatened to stab him with one of the blades from his own suit, but Barry decided against it.
He vibrated so fast that Savitar’s suit exploded then he knocked Savitar out. As Barry was walking away, Savitar ran after him and attempted to attack him from behind, but he was shot and he then faded away.
After months of Barry trying to save Iris from Savitar, it was then revealed that Iris shot Savitar in the back and saved Barry’s life.
