“The Fate Of The Furious” is currently dominating the box office and breaking records. Fans can’t seem to get enough of the franchise, and it shows no signs of slowing down. It was recently reported that both Vin Diesel and The Rock will be returning for the ninth installment, and now it looks like The Rock will be starring in another Fast and Furious related film.
Deadline reports that Universal is planning to create a spinoff movie which will focus Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters. Plans are still in the early stages, but the studio reportedly wants to broaden the universe of the franchise, and they want to test the waters with a Rock/Statham spinoff.
Chris Morgan is said to be writing the script, and although he hasn’t started writing yet, he and the studio are talking.
The chemistry between Rock’s Luke Hobbs and Statham’s Decker Shaw is something that fans really enjoyed in “The Fate Of The Furious” and the duo even filmed a scene teasing a spinoff which was later reportedly cut by Vin Diesel.
As far as when the film could possibly be made, it could be something that goes into production while the studio is figuring out what to do with the next installment in the main franchise.
