Next year the Marvel Cinematic Universe will turn 10, and the past decade has been a good one for Marvel Studios. The studio seemed like an unlikely success story back when they launched “Iron Man” in 2008, but nowadays they’re leading the industry in regards to comic book films.
Thanks to Marvel Studios and their cinematic universe, fans have been able to see characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and more on screen together. However, there are still quite a few Marvel characters missing from the MCU, as the studio doesn’t have the rights to all of the characters.
Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man, and Marvel Studios managed to work out a deal last year that allowed both studios to share the character. Many fans hoped that the deal would open up discussions between Fox and Marvel Studios about sharing the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, but nothing has come to fruition.
Fox doesn’t have the best track record with Fantastic Four films, and the last movie they released was considered to be a disaster among fans and critics alike. Unfortunately the lack of success for the reboot didn’t bring us any closer to the group joining the MCU, as Kevin Feige recently spoke to AlloCine and said it’s not happening.
“[We have] no plans with the Fantastic Four right now,” Feige told AlloCine via Newsarama. “No discussions about it.”
Ironically Fox had originally planned to release a sequel to the Fantastic Four reboot this month, but obviously that didn’t happen.
Fox has big plans for the X-Men universe, but as of right now the studio has yet to announce any future plans for the Fantastic Four.
