Chris Evans has been playing Captain America for 6 years now, and he was originally signed on for six films with Marvel Studios. Evans has been a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s a safe bet that he’s going to be a pretty important character in “Avengers: Infinity War.”
When “Infinity War” was announced Marvel declared that the film would be split into two parts, meaning that in order for Evans to appear in the second part he would have to extend his contract. Luckily he did extend his contract and he recently spoke to The Telegraph about why he thought it was the right move.
“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter. They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”
Evans also noted that the films are going to “wrap everything up” so it should be interesting to see what happens to the mantle of Captain America within the MCU after the second film.
Kevin Feige has also teased that the MCU will look “very different” after phase 3 is complete, so perhaps we’ll see Bucky Barnes or another character pick up the shield.
With the way Marvel operates they most likely have a plan in place, but only time will tell what that plan is.
