“The Fast and the Furious” franchise has been going strong for a very long time now and it shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Vin Diesel recently announced release dates for the next three films which are all set to be released in the next five years.
The next film “Fast 8” is set to hit theaters on April 14, 2017 and this time around the film franchise will have a female villain. According to Variety the studio is swinging for the fences and they’re “eager” to cast Charlize Theron.
Theron has been receiving a lot of praise recently for her role as Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and the buzz has carried her to an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. With an ensemble cast featuring Vin Diesel, The Rock and Jason Statham it’s not hard to see where Theron could fit into the picture. She’s proved she can carry a movie and Deadline notes that this is said to be a “juicy role.” But it has yet to be made official and Universal had no comment when asked about the report.
It’s also being reported that she hasn’t seen any part of the script yet and that the script is also not done at the moment. But “Straight Outta Compton” director F. Gary Gray is set to take the helm for this one and production begins next spring.
