Fox has been expanding their X-Men film universe over the last few years, and it’s only going to get bigger in the years to come. “Deadpool 2,” “New Mutants” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” are all set to hit theaters next year, but one movie that’s missing from the schedule is Channing Tatum’s Gambit film.
The film was announced a few years ago, but news has been quiet as of late in regards to the movie’s development. At San Diego Comic Con Tatum talked a little bit about the film, and he says that eventually the setbacks will be looked at as blessings.
“I think we got super, super lucky. I think a lot of setbacks, we’ll look at them in hindsight as giant blessing,” Tatum said via Cinema Blend. “Because we were making it, [and] we’re writing a movie right at the turn of a paradigm shift in movies. So we got lucky that we didn’t just come out with ours, which I don’t think was fully formed. It was a good idea. We were going in the right direction. And then we got to learn from two really beautifully different kinds of a complete paradigm shifts… like Logan and Deadpool, I mean, they knocked down a lot of doors for us to be able to do things that we wanted to do in the first place.”
Tatum also added that he feels the film can really benefit from the “rebirth” that’s happening in the X-Men film universe right now, and that he hopes Gambit can bring a panel to Comic Con next year.
