The Arrowverse Loses A Major Character In The Four Way Crossover

Warning, major spoilers ahead for “Crisis On Earth-X.”

The epic four way “Arrowverse” crossover went out with a bang during night 2 on Tuesday, and it was a night that fans won’t soon forget. It had been teased ahead of time that the finale would be tragic, and heartbreaking, and it was.

In part 3 of “Crisis On Earth-X” Jax and Stein were trying to open a portal from Earth-X to Earth-1, and they decided that it would be easier for them to get it done if they separated. As Martin was trying to get to a switch he needed to throw, he was shot, and it appeared that he may have died.

In part 4 it was revealed that Stein was still alive, and after he came to, he stood up and walked to the switch while Nazis were shooting at him. He threw the switch but he got shot again in the process, and the rest of the heroes managed to get him back on the Waverider on Earth-1 after Jax merged with him to form Firestorm.

Gideon tried to repair Stein, but it couldn’t be done, and due to their connection, Stein’s injuries were also killing Jax.

Stein woke up and he asked Jax to give him the formula that Harry Wells and Cisco developed that would allow them to separate so that Jax could live.

Jax and Stein shared a very emotional moment as Jax tried to refuse, but Stein ordered him to hand him the vile so he could save his life. Martin Stein then drank the vile and died.

All of the characters who were close with him grieved as Jax went to his house to tell his family.

Later in the episode a funeral was held and Jax was the one who spoke.

Martin Stein is gone, and it appears that Firestorm is no more, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens to Jax.

Even though it’s the “Arrowverse” and no one ever really stays dead, it seems unlikely that we’ll be seeing Martin Stein any time soon, as it was recently confirmed that he is leaving “Legends of Tomorrow” to perform on Broadway.
