“Arrow” returned for season 6 a few weeks ago, and Wild Dog debuted a new suit in the season premiere. The new suit is a big change for the character, and Wild Dog co-creator Terry Beatty didn’t exactly respond well to the change.
Rick Gonzalez joined the cast of “Arrow” in season 5, and Beatty had nothing but praise for his performance despite the fact that he’s not a fan of the new costume. Rick recently spoke to Yahoo about the backlash, and he said that he totally gets it, and the show’s costume designer tried her best to make the new suit an homage to the original.
“I did hear that Terry Beatty, the original creator of Wild Dog in the comic books, wasn’t too happy about [the costume upgrade]. And I totally get it. It can feel we’re not keeping the integrity of Wild Dog the same, especially by changing his look.”
“I promise you that Maya [Mani, the show’s costume designer] took everything from the original design and upgraded it and tried to make an homage to that [while at the same time integrating him into the Arrowverse]. And I agree with him — I love the original costume! It’s incredible.”
Oliver Queen recently passed the Green Arrow mantle on to John Diggle, but don’t look for Wild Dog to change his suit any time soon, as Rick Gonzalez said he doesn’t want to become the Green Arrow.
“No. I hope not! Wild Dog loves his suit. He doesn’t love the code name, but he loves the suit.”
