When We Will Find Out Why Savitar Wants To Kill Iris West

Beware, if you’re not caught up, this post contains spoilers about Savitar’s identity. For most of season 3 Team Flash has been attempting to prevent Savitar from killing Iris West, and this week everything changed when Barry Allen figured out who Savitar is.

Barry confronted Savitar, and told him that he figured out why Savitar is always one step ahead, and that’s because he’s a future version of himself, so he already knows what happens.

Now that Barry knows he’s fighting a future version of himself, that gives him something to work with, but one thing he doesn’t know yet, is why a future version of Barry Allen would want to kill his beloved Iris West.

We waited almost a whole season for the Savitar reveal, but luckily we won’t have to wait much longer to find out why he wants to kill Iris.

“You get that in the next episode, and the mystery is ongoing, but obviously Savitar is a version of Barry Allen, a heavily scarred version,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW.

Andrew Kreisberg also noted that revealing Barry as Savitar was always the plan, and they thought the idea of having Grant Gustin play both the hero and the villain was new and exciting.

“What’s really cool for anyone who thought that there wasn’t a plan, or we didn’t know, or we were making this up as we go, this was always where we were heading,” Kreisberg says. “The idea that the darkest villain we could come up with was actually a very damaged version of our hero was interesting and fresh to us. We’re not only competing with all the stuff that we’ve done on Flash, but we’re always competing with everything we’ve done on all the other shows. So to have our lead actor be both the hero and the villain isn’t something we’ve done before, so that was exciting for us as storytellers.”

Whether you were let down by the reveal or not, there’s no denying that it’s intriguing. Most actors on “The Flash” have mastered the art of playing multiple characters, but we’ve never seen an evil Barry Allen before, so it’s going to be fun to sit back and watch Grant Gustin bring the character to life.
