The Marvel Netflix shows have been going strong for a while now, but we have yet to see characters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones or Luke Cage appear in the film world. Actor Anthony Mackie who plays Falcon in the MCU recently spoke during a panel at Wizard World in Cleveland, and he doesn’t think a crossover would work (via ScreenGeek).

“Different universes, different worlds, different companies, different designs. Kevin Feige is very specific about how he wants the Marvel Universe to be seen in the film world. It wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t work at all.”

It’s hard to deny that the film and TV universes are drastically different when it comes to tone. The shows on Netflix are dark, violent and gritty, whereas the films are usually made to be all ages appropriate. Still, there are quite a few fans out there who would love to see characters like Daredevil interact with The Avengers.

Will it happen? Hopefully. But it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen anytime soon.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will all unite in “The Defenders” and the series is expected to premiere on Netflix in the summer of 2017. They’ll be going up against Sigourney Weaver who will be playing the main villain of the series, but not much is known about her character at this point in time.

Marvel has made it clear that fans can expect a big team up when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all come together for “The Defenders” and the dream is slowly inching closer to becoming a reality. The four heroes will team up to face a greater threat when they go against Sigourney Weaver who is set to play the main villain of the series.

EW decided to shine the spotlight on The Defenders for the cover of their newest issue, and the team looks pretty damn good together.

“The Defenders” certainly won’t be the first superhero team up under the Marvel Studios umbrella, as “The Avengers” have been making waves on the big screen for a few years now. However, Marvel’s Jeph Loed noted that “The Defenders” will be a very different viewing experience when compared to “The Avengers.”

“The Defenders didn’t have a ‘D’ on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower,” says Loeb. “We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, ‘I never want to see your face again.’”

Although an exact release date has not been revealed yet, the EW article notes that the show is expected to be released in the summer of 2017.

The show is the highly anticipated third series to come from Marvel’s partnership with Netflix following “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.”

We already had the chance to see Mike Colter’s Luke Cage in action during season 1 of “Jessica Jones.” Marvel also released a teaser teaser for the upcoming first season of “Luke Cage” during San Diego Comic-Con, and fans have been waiting patiently to see more footage.

Luckily we won’t have to wait much longer as Marvel announced earlier today that the new trailer for “Luke Cage” will be released on Tuesday.

Smith has been doing a lot of cool stuff in the DC world as of late, but he also has his eyes on a Marvel Studios property as well. Later this year Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will come together to film “The Defenders” and Kevin Smith says he wants in.

“You know, they’re gearing up now for The Defenders,” Kevin Smith told IGN. “If I can get a piece of that Defenders mini-series holy s**t, could you imagine, dude? Because then you’re working with multiple suits at once, that’d be phenomenal. Just doing a mini Avengers – even one episode of that run of Defenders is like, ‘oh, I get to exercise any interest I had in Avengers but doing it on a scale where nobody’s betting $200 million on the guy that made f**kin’ Yoga Hosers.’

Kevin also added that he wants to direct “Daredevil” and that he feels more comfortable doing superhero TV shows instead of big budget superhero movies. You can check out the full interview by clicking here.

“They’ll be back-to-back.” Ritter told Digital Spy. “I don’t know if they’ll overlap a little bit…It’s about to be a serious undertaking. I’m starting my physical training – lots of weight training and boxing.”

Jessica will obviously be in a very different place in season 2 now that Kilgrave is no longer a factor. Ritter talked about season 2 and said she’s excited to see where the story goes.

“I’m excited to see what happens next for Jessica, and the end of season one left a lot of doors open and questions unanswered. Kilgrave was her reason for getting up every morning. Saving people gave her purpose. I wonder how emotionally taxed she’s going to be now.”

The next Marvel show to premiere on Netflix will be “Luke Cage” which arrives September 20th and “The Defenders” will start shooting later this year.

“What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.” Cox said via The Independent.

Well, that’s certainly good news. If the series starts filming at the end of this year then that means it will likely hit Netflix in 2017. Season 2 of “Daredevil” was released last month and it’s been receiving rave reviews. Shortly after the release of season 1 last year, Marvel and Netflix announced that “Daredevil” would return for season 2. But Charlie Cox says he hasn’t heard anything about whether or not the show will be getting a third season.

“We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three. I certainly don’t know.” Cox told reporters.

He also added that he’s not sure if any of the storylines from “Daredevil” will come into play in The Defenders series. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see.

“Luke Cage” is the next member of The Defender who will be getting his own series and the show will premiere on Netflix September 30th. “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones” are available now.
