STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS — The Legends are still reeling from the news that their time travel-nemesis is a speedster when they are alerted to an Aberration in the Old West. When the Legends arrive they find their old friend Jonah Hex (guest star Jonathan Schaech) in trouble with his arch-nemesis, Quentin Turnbull (guest star Jeff Fahey). The team soon discovers that they need to stop Turnbull and his gang from conquering the West and branding it his own lawless territory. To Hex’s surprise, Sara (Caity Lotz) is in charge and dispatches the team. Rory (Dominic Purcell) is ecstatic to be in the Wild West, but Sara makes Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) work with him to keep him on task, which is easier said than done. Meanwhile, Nate (Nick Zano), Ray (Brandon Routh) and Jax (Franz Drameh) try to infiltrate Turnball’s gang, but find themselves in a shootout leaving Nate’s confidence shaken. Victor Garber also stars. Cherie Nowlan directed the episode written by Matthew Maala & Chris Fedak.

In “Eleven Fifty-Nine” Team Arrow traveled to Iron Heights Prison to attempt to stop Damien Darhk from escaping, but they failed. During their attempt Oliver shot an arrow at Damien Darhk and Darhk used his powers stopped it in mid air and then he stabbed Laurel with it.

Damien Darhk got away and then the Green Arrow took Laurel to the hospital. Laurel bounced back and it seemed like everything was going to be fine. She regained consciousness and spoke with Oliver for a few minutes and before she died she told him something.

What did she say to Oliver? Producer Marc Guggenheim recently answered some questions at a press screening of the episode, and he says that we won’t find out what Laurel said until season 5. But he has confirmed that Oliver Queen didn’t help her fake her own death.

“No,” Guggenheim says. “We’ve done a fake death before. That’s the thing, we’re always trying to figure out, ‘What’s a way to do this?’ That fake-out where she was okay and then she wasn’t was our attempt: How do we do a death that we haven’t done before? [It’s a] creative challenge, the deeper you get into your story. It’s the nature of having a long-running show that deals as a major component of it with death.”

The Lance family has had a very tough time over the past four seasons of “Arrow.” Quentin Lance has had to say goodbye to his daughter Sara twice, and now he will have to say goodbye to Laurel. Paul Blackthorne who plays Quentin Lance on the show says that the death was tough for him because he is so close with Katie Cassidy.

“This death is just devastating for Lance, because this is not the one that was ever supposed to happen,” Blackthorne says. “Personally, I was almost as devastated as Lance, to be honest, with the news of this happening, because Katie and I have had such an amazing working relationship that it actually really is hard to accept. In terms of Quentin, he’s going to have to pick up the pieces, not pick up a bottle, and reconcile what’s left in his life. With that, he’s got the Arrow family. That’ll be where he’ll have to find his anchor now from here on in without his beautiful daughter. In terms of fantastic story, as awful as it is that Black Canary is a sacrifice, in terms of stories, it’s like wham! It’s an amazing turn to throw at the audience. People aren’t expecting it and it’s fantastic.”

Of course, Laurel Lance has had to say goodbye to her sister Sara twice in the past, but this will be the first time that Sara will have to deal with the death of Laurel. Sara is currently traveling through time with the rest of the team on DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” but producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that the unfortunate news will make its way to Sara.

“Sara will find out in Legends [of Tomorrow] about what happened with Laurel,” Guggenheim says. “We give it its due. I feel like we give it its due. We’ve always said on Legends we were not going to shy away from this development as far as Sara’s character is concerned. Paul was very gracious to lend his time to Legends to really allow us to explore that.”

In regards to whether or not someone else will be picking up the mantle of Black Canary, Marc Guggenheim hinted that the topic will come up in the next episode.

“I don’t know that I would say up for grabs,” Guggenheim says. “I think it’s a mantle that multiple people have had. We’ll play with that notion in episode 19. I personally like the idea that DC Comics, all the comics, they all have the concept of legacy. We’ve seen on Legends that someone picks up Oliver Queen’s mantle, for example. We’re in that world, but we lean into it pretty strongly in 19. That doesn’t always mean that the person is a hero. [Episode] 19 is the answer to that question.”

We see Sara’s new love interest for the first time in the clip as Sara breaks up an awkward encounter between her and a doctor. Sara is then treated to a tour when she notices a familiar face in a portrait on the wall.

Producer Phil Klemmer said a few months ago that Sara finding a new love interest is all about her getting back into the right place emotionally.

“At the start of this episode, we find Sara Lance completely out of place, both in time and place, visiting 1958 ‘Pleasantville, America’ — and also out of place emotionally. After Sara was brought back from the dead on Arrow, she hasn’t been herself — she’s been consumed by a quest for bloodshed and incapable of  having romantic feelings for anyone. The strict social norms of the fifties makes this the last place Sara Lance would ever expect to find love with a young, closeted nurse, but that’s how love works — it finds you.” Producer Phil Klemmer told EW.

DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” airs Thursdays on the CW at 8pm EST.

EW is reporting that “Fringe” and “Kyle XY” alumni Ali Liebert has been cast as the new love interest for Sara Lance in the show. Liebert will play Lindsay Carlisle, a nurse from the 1950s who feels disconnected from the world because she is a lesbian and has to keep her sexuality a secret. Since the show will be dealing with time travel, Sara a bisexual woman from the year 2015, will be crossing paths with Lindsay in 1958 and the two will end up making a connection.
