Diggle is feeling a lot of guilt over Laurel’s passing and he holds himself responsible for the actions of his brother Andy which contributed to her death. The preview for “Canary Cry” shows Diggle holding Ruve Darhk at gunpoint and it looks like Diggle has become unhinged after losing a beloved member of Team Arrow. David Ramsey who plays Diggle on the show confirmed that his character will be going to a dark place for the rest of “Arrow” season 4.

“Post-traumatic stress syndrome has happened to the whole team after Laurel’s death. He’s no exception, and so we’re seeing a Diggle that we’ve never seen before,” David revealed to Access Hollywood. “What has happened to his brother – the betrayal, the not-death, the H.I.V.E., the not quite H.I.V.E. – he is on an emotional tailspin, his wife now a part of this organization, ARGUS, which clearly has its own agenda that he’s never really fully agreed with, so I think we’re looking at a Diggle who… this is a nuts and bolts kind of guy. And there was a great line that Lyla had during the Suicide Squad episode of Season 2. … She [said] very clearly, ‘You see the world in black and white, and the world is much more complicated,’ and I think that’s always been his Achilles heel … The same thing that makes Diggle strong in that he sees it black and white and therefore he’s honorable and super loyal and he will take the grenade, is the same thing that is his Achilles heel. He can’t really wrap his head around the gray areas. … You’re going to see a Diggle who has to deal with the gray and because of that, he is fractured and he is willing to do things that you never would have thought him to do.”

“Arrow” will return on Wednesday, April 27 with “Canary Cry.”

It was later revealed that this version of Connor Hawke is the son of John Diggle. In the episode Diggle was dead so we never got to find out how he felt about his son becoming a vigilante. But David Ramsey recently spoke to Zap2it and he told them that he thinks Diggle would be proud of Connor Hawke.

“In any capacity, whether his son decided to become an ADA like Laurel Lance and protect the innocent or a vigilante or a cop like Captain Lance — I think he’d be proud in any instance if he took on that mantle,” Ramsey explains. “Obviously taking on the mantle of Green Arrow is beyond Diggle’s wildest dreams. He’s just a proud father.”

Connor has yet to be born in the current “Arrow” timeline, but with time travel being so common in the Arrowverse nowadays, it’s always possible that Diggle could meet an older version of him at some point. Joseph David Jones who plays Connor has said in the past that the writers are trying to find a way to bring him back to DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow,” so never say never.

“Arrow” will return with “Canary Cry” on April 27.
