“Arrow” will be returning for season 6 in October, and the new season will be somewhat of a fresh start for the series. For the first 5 seasons “Arrow” had the responsibility of telling the story of Oliver Queen’s 5 year away from Star City, but now that the backstory has been fully established, the show won’t be tied down to the flashback sequences.

This opens up new possibilities for the show, and during a recent panel at FanExpo Canada, Stephen Amell teases that we may see more classic Green Arrow elements in the new season.

“I think that some of the more classic elements can start to come to the forefront now,” Amell said via Comicbook. “We’ve always been telling our own story, but we are not conjoined anymore to his backstory.”

Oliver has spent a decent amount of time brooding on the show, but it sounds like we’ll be seeing a more mature Green Arrow in season 6, as Amell also noted that he’s making sure the show reflects the fact that Oliver has learned from his mistakes.

“The thing I ask myself whenever I’m reading a script this year and it comes down to an Oliver-based issue is, ‘is he handling this like someone who has learned lessons along the way?'” Amell admitted. “If he’s not, then we change it because if he hasn’t taken away stuff from everything that has happened in the last five years, including and especially what happened at the end of season 5, then if I were a viewer, I would be like ‘Alright, enough with this guy.'”

“Arrow” will return on Thursday, October 12.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice.

As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), and his new recruits, street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez) and meta-human Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).

Oliver has finally solidified and strengthened his crime-fighting team only to have it threatened when unexpected enemies from his past return to Star City, forcing Oliver to rethink his relationship with each member of his “family”.
