“Arrow” returned for season 5 in October, and the general consensus among fans seems to be that the show is back on track. Fans fell in love with “Arrow” during seasons 1 and 2 thanks to the gritty nature of the series, but in season 3 the show introduced some less than realistic elements such as the Atom, Ra’s al Ghul, and of course the Lazarus Pit.

By the time season 4 rolled around, Oliver Queen was battling Damien Darhk, and dealing with magic while he was wearing the Green Arrow costume. Outside of the costume, Oliver and Felicity were constantly dealing with relationship drama, and the couple that fans had “shipped” during the first two seasons became somewhat of a nightmare. Fans became frustrated with “Arrow” because it was no longer the show they fell in love with, and they weren’t the only ones.
“Arrow” star Stephen Amell recently spoke to EW, and he admitted that he became frustrated with the show’s direction in season 4.
“I put my heart and soul into every day of work and every episode, but at the same time there is a lull in any relationship where you need to have a ‘come to Jesus’ moment, so to speak. That happened for me in the latter half of season 4, where I feel like there were just a few things that got lost in the shuffle, so we needed to really refocus in season 5.”
It’s safe to say that everyone working on “Arrow” season 5 has been focused, as the series is once again a show about street level crimefighting. This season has featured quite a few throwbacks to season 1, and it looks like there will be more on the way thanks to Prometheus.
“He’s someone that exists because of the things that Oliver has done,” Amell told EW. “It allows us to go back and revisit some stories that we haven’t seen on Arrow in quite awhile.”
“Arrow” airs Wednesday nights on the CW.
