It’s been a while since “Smallville” wrapped up, but DC shows on the CW are now stronger than ever thanks to the “Arrowverse.”
“Arrow” helped to usher in a new era for the network when it debuted in 2012, and since then things have just been getting bigger and bigger.
Fans who watched “Smallville” are most likely familiar with Justin Hartley’s interpretation of Oliver Queen, and during a recent appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Hartley revealed that the network wanted to create a spinoff focusing on Oliver and Lois Lane.
“While I was on Smallville, there were several different spinoff ideas that they had,” said Hartley via ScreenRant. “They wanted to do a spinoff called Metropolis or something like that, I heard whispers of that. It was Lois and Oliver in Metropolis and whatever that was. They were trying to extend the life of the show.”
Ultimately the powers that be went in a different direction, and according to Marc Guggenheim they wanted to create their on take on the Green Arrow.
“We certainly wanted to chart our own course and destiny,” Guggeinheim told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in 2012. “Michael Keaton [as Batman] doesn’t affect your love for Christian Bale and Christian Bale doesn’t affect your love for Adam West … multiple iterations are possible.”
“Arrow” will return for season 7 in the fall.
