“Justice League” is set to hit theaters in November and anticipation for the film is at an all time high. The cast and crew have been working hard on the film, and Zack Snyder has been steering the ship in the director’s position.
Zack Snyder has worked closely with DC and Warner Bros. to develop the DCEU, similar to how Joss Whedon worked closely with Marvel to develop the MCU. Which makes the fact that Joss Whedon will be replacing Zack Snyder as the director of “Justice League” that much more interesting.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Zack Snyder unfortunately had to step down an relinquish directing duties for now due to a family tragedy. Following the death of his daughter in March, Snyder has decided to take a step back to spend time with his family.
“I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me.”
The movie is currently in postproduction and Zack Snyder’s wife, Deborah, who serves as a producer on the film is also taking a break.
Joss Whedon will be taking over directorial duties for postproduction and some additional scenes which have yet to be filmed.
Synder’s daughter sadly took her own life back in March and the family kept the death quiet.
“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it,” says an emotional Snyder in an interview Monday in his office on the Warner Bros. lot, with Deborah sitting by his side. “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I’ve come to the realization … I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”
Snyder reportedly brought Whedon on board to write additional scenes after he watched a rough cut of the film, but he made the decision to go home as he prepared to shoot them.
The directing duties Joss Whedon is taking over are said to be minimal, and he will adhere to the tone that Zack has set for the film.
The film is still on track to make the November 17, 2017 release date.
