Jennifer Lawrence joined the X-Men film franchise when “X-Men: First Class” and she appeared as Mystique in “Days of Future Past” and “Apocalypse.” But her future with the franchise was in doubt when she admitted that she was unsure if she would be returning for the next installment, but in the end she decided to sign on for “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.”
Mystique has been one of the central characters in every X-Man movie Jennifer Lawrence has appeared in, and during a recent interview with Digital Spy the actress explains that the she feels she owes it to the fans and the character to finish Mystique’s story.
“My contract was up, I didn’t have to do another one, but if I didn’t do another one, what would her story be? I felt like I owed it to the fans, and I owed it to the character to follow her journey, to be fair to the movies, and not be like, ‘I don’t want to do another X-Men!’ And then I just never show up and everyone’s very confused about the Mystique they’ve been following for the last three films.”
