The Flash Star Tom Cavanagh On If We’ll Meet A New Version Of Harrison Wells In Season 4

Tom Cavanagh has been with “The Flash” since the very beginning, and he’s played a different version of Harrison Wells in each of the three seasons so far. In season 1 he played Eobard Thawne in the body of Harrison Wells, season 2 he played Harry Wells from Earth-2 and in season 3 he played H.R. Wells from Earth-19. Each version has been unique in its own way, and it seems that we could be meeting a new Wells in season 4.

Cavangh recently spoke to CBR about season 4, and he noted that the purpose of Harrison Wells is to fill in the gaps. He confirmed he’ll be starting off the season as Harry, but noted that the new villain (The Thinker) could require a new version of Harrison Wells.

“There’s a line in the movie Rocky, ‘You got gaps, I got gaps, together we fill gaps!’” he continued. “Cisco’s so winning, Caitlin’s so winning, Barry is so winning, Joe is so winning, they’re all so winning and so, in Season 2, it was like, ‘Maybe if we had a jackass who has no social skills and is abrasive’ and then that was Harry. And then in Season 3, we had a lot of darker storylines, so like, ‘Maybe we add a little more humor’ and that was HR. And so this year, we’ve had a different villain and so I think there’s going to be areas that we could use a different Wells. We’re going to start with Harry and then find a way, I think, to try and get a different version of Wells in there, be it some version of Harry or whatnot as the season’s gaps present themselves.”

The dynamic of the show will be different this season as it’s been confirmed that Team Flash won’t be fighting a speedster. It’s also been confirmed that the series will be embracing a lighter tone for season 4, and as we all know Harry doesn’t exactly have a “light” personality.

Are you interested in meeting a new Harrison Wells? Or do you think they should just keep Harry? Sound off in the comments below.

“The Flash” season 4 will premiere on Tuesday, October 10.

Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. But when Barry used his extraordinary abilities to travel back in time and save his mother’s life, he inadvertently created an alternate timeline known as Flashpoint; a phenomenon that gave birth to the villainous speed god known as Savitar, and changed the lives of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Wally West (Keiyan Lonsdale) forever.

With the help of his adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), his lifelong best friend and love interest Iris West (Candice Patton), and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs — Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), C.S.I Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and an Earth-19 novelist named H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) — Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it.
