Executive Producer For The Flash Reveals Details About The Reverse-Flash And His Origin Story

During season 1 of “The Flash” Tam Cavanaugh absolutely killed it as the Reverse-Flash. But things got a little complicated when it was revealed that Reverse-Flash, real name Eobard Thawne, actually traveled back in time and took over the body of Harrison Wells. Tom Cavanaugh played Eobard Thawne inhabiting the body of Harrison Wells for just about all of season 1. But Eobard Thawne’s real body in this universe belongs to Matt Letscher.

We saw glimpses of Letscher as Thawne during season 1 of “The Flash.” But tonight he’s getting his first full fledged episode and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently spoke to TV Line about what we can expect. Kreisberg says that the episode will play out as a sort of origin story for the Reverse-Flash.

“You got little glimpses of Matt Letscher (Scandal) last year, but this is his first full-fledged episode. What’s fun about this episode is we’re meeting the Reverse-Flash before the events of last season, so he doesn’t know Cisco, he doesn’t know Caitlin, he doesn’t know this [young adult] version of Barry, and he hasn’t [traveled back in time and] killed Harrison Wells yet, either. All of that is in the future for him.” Kreisberg said.

Despite the fact that Eobard Thawne hasn’t met Team Flash yet, their memories of him are still very vivid. Kreisberg went on to say that Team Flash is still dealing with all of the pain Thawne caused them in season 1 and it will create an interesting dynamic despite the fact that Thawne doesn’t know anything about Team Flash in this particular timeline.

Now that Matt Letscher is finally getting his chance to step up should we expect a different version of the Reverse-Flash? According to Kreisberg the answer is no. He had nothing but rave reviews for Letscher’s performance in tonight’s episode.

“Matt did something amazing, which was he took Tom’s performance and integrated it into his own. It really does feel like they’re the same character.” Andrew added.

“The Flash” airs tonight on the CW at 8pm EST.
