The Gambit movie was announced three years ago, but so far there hasn’t been much movement on the film. Channing Tatum has said in recent interviews that everyone involved is taking their time because they want to get it right, and it looks like a big name could potentially play an iconic X-Men character in the movie.
According to Splash Report, Daniel Craig is being eyed for the role of Nathaniel Essex, aka Mr. Sinister. Channing Tatum worked with Daniel Craig on “Logan Lucky” and his praise for Craig caught the attention of FOX.
Last week Splash Report revealed some details which are reportedly from the script. You can read a synopsis of the film’s plot below:
“Gambit is hired to do a job in Paris in which he has to steal something from the Louvre Museum. His mysterious employer is revealed to be Nathaniel Essex a.k.a. Mr. Sinister. He offers Gambit 40 million to recover a mysterious trunk that was stolen by the Boudreaux clan. It will be auctioned off during the yearly Thieves Ball where all the criminal organizations in the world meet up. It uses New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebrations as a cover. Gambit decides to enlist a crew of mutants to pull off this seemingly impossible heist…”
Born Nathaniel Essex in Victorian England, Mr. Sinister s a genetically altered human with superhuman physical and mental abilities. Sinister is telepathic, able to manipulate the minds of others, and he’s also capable of energy projection through telekinesis.
It’s not yet known if Daniel Craig will end up signing on for the role, but on paper it seems that Craig would be a great fit for the part.
It seems that FOX has big plans to continue expanding their X-Men film universe, and with Mr. Sinister reportedly being introduced in “Gambit” it would make sense for the studio to continue to use the villain in future films.
