Laurel Lance was killed off in “Arrow” season 4, and fans were less than thrilled to see the Black Canary go. “Arrow” fans can be intense at times, and that’s because the fans are very passionate about the show, and everyone has their favorites when it comes to the characters of the “Arrowverse.”
Team Arrow didn’t go too long before a replacement was found, and Oliver recruited Dinah Drake to replace Laurel in season 5. When “Arrow” returns for season 6, Dinah Drake will fully embrace the Black Canary mantle, and no one is more excited than Juliana Harkavy.
A few weeks ago the first photo of Dinah Drake in her new Black Canary suit was released, and she looks phenomenal. However, there are still some fans out there who don’t want to accept anyone else but Laurel Lance as the Black Canary.
Juliana Harkavy recently spoke to CBR about some of the backlash to someone else taking on the Black Canary mantle, and she noted that more than anything she just appreciates the fact that people are loyal to certain characters and that they care so much about the show.
“It’s been really welcoming. It’s been very warm and positive and supportive. Any negativity that I’ve experienced — I can’t even really say that it has been negative, because I get where it was coming from. A lot of it was loyalty to a character fans now believe is gone. You can’t be upset for someone’s loyalty to a character, as an actor that’s a gift to see fans care that much.”
In regards to what fans can expect from her Black Canary in season 6, Harkavy noted that she’s done her research, but she refrained from diving too deep as she wants the chance to make the character her own.
“I did a lot of research. I really wanted to make it my own. I’ve been slowly reading to see — I didn’t want to be too influenced.”
“Arrow” will return on Thursday, October 12.
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice.
As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), and his new recruits, street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez) and meta-human Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).
Oliver has finally solidified and strengthened his crime-fighting team only to have it threatened when unexpected enemies from his past return to Star City, forcing Oliver to rethink his relationship with each member of his “family”.
