Katie Cassidy has been part of “Arrow” since the very beginning, but she took on a much larger role in season 3 when she became the Black Canary. Prior to taking on the mantle of Black Canary, Laurel didn’t really get in on the action, so it was a big chance for Katie Cassidy.
Cassidy had to adjust to doing combat scenes, and one day on the set an action scene went wrong in a hilarious way. Katie Cassidy recently shared a story about a night shoot on the “Arrow” season 3 set at San Diego Comic Con, and she says she once threw a punch so hard that she ended up knocking herself over.
“In Season 3, we were doing these night scenes, and I have so much adrenaline rushing into it,” Cassidy said via CinemaBlend. “I was supposed to take a punch and my stunt double was like, ‘Make sure you go into it and give it all you’ve got. All this umph!’ So I was like, ‘Okay.’ So I got to throw this punch and I threw it so hard that I actually belly-flopped, knocked myself over and belly-flopped onto the pavement. Luckily, I was as the Black Canary at the time, fully suited up, and so it was padded. So it didn’t hurt at all. I was just hoping they’d make it at least into the bloopers, but I guess it didn’t. It was really funny.”
It’s definitely a shame that scene didn’t end up on the blooper reel.
After two seasons as the Black Canary, and one season as Black Siren, it’s safe to say that Katie Cassidy has seen her fair share of battles, and she’ll be combat ready when season 6 arrives.
“Arrow” will return on Thursday, October 12.
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice.
As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), and his new recruits, street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez) and meta-human Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).
Oliver has finally solidified and strengthened his crime-fighting team only to have it threatened when unexpected enemies from his past return to Star City, forcing Oliver to rethink his relationship with each member of his “family”.
