Spider-Man is finally getting his own standalone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he won’t be alone. Robert Downey Jr. will also be reprising his role as Tony Stark in the film, and he told Good Morning America that he was thrilled to be a part of the movie.

“I genuinely had a blast,” he said. “I just love Spider-Man so to me being able to participate in reintroducing Spider-Man to a new generation or giving kind of a really back to, that’s why it’s called homecoming.”

Next year the MCU will turn 10, as the 10 year anniversary of the release of “Iron Man” will be celebrated.

Robert Downey Jr. is considered to be the godfather of the MCU at this point, but he won’t be playing Tony Stark forever. However, RDJ also told GMA that he wants to make sure that the rest of the MCU team will be in good shape without him before he takes off his armor for good.

“It’s like with a team if you’re going to hang up your jersey, you want to make sure the team is in good shape and they can still compete at a high level,” he said, “because ultimately that’s what made the whole thing worth doing anyways.”

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” will arrive in theaters on July 7, 2017.

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May.
